A short summary of my findings of mapping with a computer, bicycle, and car:
There are virtually no roads other than Powerhouse Road, and Old Black Oak Road to go to Camp Moultrie.
North of Powerhouse is Manigault that will cut over from 52 to Old Black Oak Road.
Manigault can be used if coming in from the north from Canady Branch on 52.
No other roads come into Camp Moultrie  but dirt, sandy roads.

Schurlknight is paved from Alvin to Peaceful Woods.
Schurlknight is not paved on the western half closer to Harristown.

Right below will be a cuesheet that gets close to a century.
At the bottom of this page is a metric.

On 6-28-08 I decided to route some FestiVelo mileage for a loop around Lake Moultrie.
Just riding around the "lake" can be a good metric or less.
I have a metric course outlined already.
Below is the route I rode Saturday instead of the route I wanted to ride.
I also drove past some turns to check some roads out that looked like they did something on a map.
They did nothing. Wasted gas.

I planned to ride the cue sheet below but for Russellville.
I rode straight in on 45 after turning onto 45 at the Diversion Canal at Cross.
The reasoning was that the GPS records a higher mileage than my car.
I already had the car mileage for that part of the route including Russellville.
It made sense to check the mileage and traffic on 45.

The cuesheet above must be amended to tell the riders to turn on the road across from Susie.
when this road Ts into Schurknight then they find  Peaceful Woods or Walleye.

The map shows Schurlknight to be a main artery a bit.
Schurlknight is paved from Alvin to Peaceful Woods.
Another notation is that Peaceful Woods turns into Walleye after crossing 17A.
On some maps it is called Walleye in it's entirety.
So using Schurknight off of Greentown from the Harristown area is not an option by road bike.

However, continuing on Greentown past Schurlknight there will be a road on the right called Susie.
Across from Susie is an unmarked road called Valleywood.
Valleywood will take you over to the paved part of Schurlknight.
This is what I did. From here I could see an intersection to the left.
This would be 45 and Schurlknight and Alvin.
I headed in that direction not knowing what I'd find.
I saw that it was 45 and Alvin.

It was here that I asked one of the local "chipmunks" for directions.
This was a mistake.
The local gave me pure gibberish and I'm pretty sure he lied to me.

Perhaps he's lived there all his life and didn't know Peaceful Woods was almost in front of his house.
He sent me down the road on a Gilligan's Island Tour.
I followed the main road around to the left. It was called Hood town.
Had I gone straight that would have been the sandy "Schurlknight".

Hood town Ts into 17A. 17A although very busy has a shoulder and stripe that resembles a bike lane.
17A from here isn't pleasant and is dangerous because of the traffic.

I started below at Camp Moultrie. I saw a herd of deer in the road as I drove up.
Stan was very pleasant and gave some good insight on some of the roads.
For instance the road to the left, leaving the "camp" and away from Short Stay is a dead-end.

Going into Moncks Corner was very fast and easy. Must've been a tail-wind and there was some downhill.

Leaving MC my pace slowed from around 21 to 18.5 and then for the first hour I averaged 17.5.

The road looks like this for 12 miles. It's straight and flat and in the middle of the day some traffic.
It's best to ride this road, Hiway 6, earlier in the morning.
After turning right on 6 as the road ahead becomes 311, the road becomes more interesting and prettier.

The road becomes Ranger Road as 6 splits off to the left as the picture right above to the left shows.
Two pictures above to the left shows Short Cut to the left. Short Cut goes over to 45 and 6.
I was told by the "peanut man" a week ago to not take that road as it is busy and dangerous.
There seems to be no advantage to go over to 6 in that direction.
Hiway 6 from Eutawville to where 45 splits going east is busy and very dangerous.
The picture, upper right shows the hill (bridge) over Diversion Canal.

The Canal is a treasure.

Between here and Francis Marion Burial Site is the dam.
A few extra miles can be added on with that loop.

The FM Burial Site at 31 miles could be a rest stop.

The grave is about a mile and a half on a hard packed dirt road easily traveled by road bike.
I've ridden it a few times.

Nice church.

There was some traffic on 45 but this was the middle of the day.

Another canal is near St. Stephens.

Today there are boiled peanuts and fruit flavored shaved ice.
The lady above is married to a former deputy sheriff. Her father was a deputy as well.
She was checking out this weirdly dressed, strange looking old man with a beard riding a bicycle.

St. Stephens

Greentown road

A memorial- for a local marine who was killed here I think- maybe motorcycle accident.

Nice Scenery

Unfortunately Hoodtown road puts you right out on 17A.

Stan was an excellent host. Upon my asking him if I could "hose" off at an outside faucet,
he immediately said I could use the camp's showers.
He gave me water and an energy/recovery/electrolyte/powder packet to put in the water.

What a guy!

Because I took 17A back to the camp I only rode 70 miles. It was hot. My mileage was off.
I needed to cut my losses. No good was to come out of my staying out in 100 degrees.
